Buck, Seifert & Jost, Inc. was retained by the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MCMUA) to provide professional engineering services for the design and construction of a 2.5 MG elevated water storage facility (hydro pillar), including 1000 lf of 12" water main. BS&J assessed the preliminary sites selected by the MCMUA and recommended the final site for approval by the host municipality.Design and construction services were completed by BS&J.
The elevated tank has a minimum useable capacity of 2.0 MG approximately 55 ft. above ground level. Additional capacity allowance was made for the fire storage needs. Design options included utilizing the tank column for other needs, such as material storage.
As part of the design, BS&J incorporated provisions for communication between the tank and a booster station that was constructed under another contract. In addition, a dual piping scheme was used to minimize stagnation of the stored water.
Construction services included full site observation; resident engineer; progress payment recommendations; weekly progress meetings; submittal and shop drawing review; field clarification and change order preparation.
