United Water Toms River - Berkeley Radionuclide Facility

In March 2010 following rigorous start-up and testing, the UWTR Berkeley Radionuclide Facility was brought on-line.  BS&J designed, obtained permits, and provided engineering services during construction for this project using ion exchange to remove naturally occurring Radium 226, Radium 228, and Gross Alpha in the well water.  The facility is able to treat flows from 1 to more than 5 million gallons per day (MGD) using lime to raise pH, Klenphos as a corrosion inhibitor, and sodium hypochlorite for disinfection.  The waste stream from the regeneration cycle is treated using DOWEX RSC resin and lime to raise pH.
