BS&J completed the design and permitting of overtopping protection for No Name Dam No. 31 on Cramer’s Creek near the confluence with the Raritan River, and provided engineering assistance during construction, which is nearing completion. The improvements include the use of Articulated Concrete Blocks (ACBs) to armor this earth embankment dam, and portions of the upstream and downstream slopes will be flattened. An existing reinforced concrete box culvert through the dam was extended to accommodate the new downstream slope. The work includes the addition of a toe drain. Special considerations had to be given to the existing road along the top of the dam and the existing electrical substation near the downstream toe of the dam. Previously, BS&J updated the hydrology and hydraulic modeling for No Name Dam No. 31. As part of our work, BS&J evaluated the appropriate Spillway Design Flood for this dam. An alternatives analysis was prepared.
